PPORA: Friars Haugh 19/01/25

Marina Bealby and Precious Bounty soaring to victory at Badbury Rings (Tim Holt)

The fixture at Friars Haugh on Sunday 19th January sees the running of a PPORA Ladies Open over 2m4f – the only PPORA race of its kind this season – and 15 horses have been entered, including a number of potential long-distance travellers. These include Loughan from Gina Andrews’ Warwickshire yard, paying their first visit to the course – who won four last season, but may come on for the run – and two from Leicestershire, Ashley and Marina Bealby’s Badbury Rings winner Precious Bounty and Kelly Morgan’s Music Drive. Kelly would be another first-time visitor, and her eight-year-old pointing debutant had useful form when trained by Gordon Elliott. Knightwick scorer Killer Clown would be travelling furthest, trainer Rachael White being based near Malmesbury in Wiltshire, but he was firmly put in his place last time at Alnwick by Sarah and Laura Fenwick’s Kingrullah. Top-rated is Will Ramsay’s Diable De Sivola, representing the Jockey Start scheme and the likely mount of Jesika Rennie. He was still going well when carried out at Alnwick on his return from nearly two years off. James and Natasha Cookson’s Vivas is another who has been lightly raced recently, but he is ultra-consistent, with three wins and two seconds between the flags, including in this grade.
