It’s been another great season with Blazing Tom and he ran a mighty fine race at Stratford in the champion novice hunter chase. We all knew it would be a massive gamble to get the perfect straight 10 wins and unfortunately it didn’t pay off but Tommy didn’t disgrace himself. A horse that was given a rating of 75 before his win at Hexham, on paper he was very much outclassed. Joe gave him another class ride and he jumped and travelled the best he has for a long while. Turning in and coming over the last you could say he looked like the winner but he couldn’t quite shake the younger horses. He ended up third, only being beaten two and a quarter lengths. Safe to say we all got very excited shouting him home but just delighted he’s back safe and sound. Tommy is now enjoying his much-earned summer holiday.
With Tommy being in the field I’ve had a bit more time on my hands. Alongside going to Jack Berry I’ve been spending more time with family and friends that I haven’t seen for a while. I even got to enjoy a trip to Royal Ascot. It was a lovely hot social day, with some great racing but safe to say I won’t look forward to wearing heels again any time soon. I was very lame by the end of the day!
It’s my last week in Jack Berry house before being signed off. The team there has been great keeping me on the straight and narrow, I can’t thank them enough! Even though the injury was heartbreaking, it’s been a great opportunity and I look forward to coming back even stronger!
Before I get back in the saddle I’m jetting off to Marbella for the week in the sun with the girls. As of yet I have nothing set in stone on where I’m going to be working but a couple of weeks riding out in Ireland may be on the cards.
Overall there’s been plenty of highs and lows this season; only really being to ride from January until March due to injury. I’m grateful to have still been able to ride some lovely horses, gaining 5 winners, riding my first ever double at Ampton and being leading jockey there this season is definitely one of the highs! I really appreciate everyone’s support and I look forward to seeing what next season brings.
