First of all I would like to thank the PPORA for allowing me to have the opportunity to write about what I enjoy the most Racing, horses and taking pictures and videos.
My name is Helen (also part of Edworthy Racing mainly the groom), I am from South Devon near Dartmoor , with the moor on our doorstep it is perfect hacking for us and for keeping the horses fit.
I have been brought up with horses since I was very small to now becoming away of life, owning various different types of horses over the years, but I now prefer to keep my feet on the floor but at a push will help out and ride, but mostly just the fetcher and carrier, which I do love really, all the riding is down to my daughter whom also loves it.
I really enjoy going to point to points, the atmosphere is like nothing else , everyone enjoying themselves and watching the races and cheering the jockeys / horses on.
My aim is to try to help get the next generation of riders interested and share our experiences as coming into point to pointing as total beginners, training our own two horses ourselves and enjoying every single minute - even if it doesn’t go as well as we had planned! It’s all about learning we have learnt something new every time and everyone is so very helpful, I am sure there are some other very small yards like us that only have 2/3 horses.
We have our own horse entered in this Sunday at the Royal Cornwall Show Ground Wadebridge which we are really looking forward to the ground is also looking good with this course benefiting from good draining ground . The first race at 11.30am £15pp includes a racecard under 16’s are free but must be accompanied by an adult, the entries are looking good with some competitive racing.
Wadebridge also has the benefit of being undercover with plenty of trade stands for those Christmas gifts or maybe a little something special for yourself, with food and refreshments also available maybe a bite to eat or drink whilst watching some racing.
I will hopefully be popping up at various point to points in Devon throughout the season and having a chat with some of you and even trying my hand at posting some stories on social media platforms of the race days.
If anyone would also like to approach me via messenger or on Instagram, or even in person with anything they would like to say regarding any topics, or a chat this season in the South West Area please feel free and I can add this to my next blog.
I know the weather caused a lot of abandoned races last season with the ground being so very wet and the rain just kept on coming but hopefully this season will be a better one for all involved.
Good luck to everyone this season and hopefully I will see you out and about.
