The PPORA Level 3 Conditions Race for Novice Riders at Chaddesley Corbett on Sunday 29th December has attracted 19 entries, of whom three share joint-top rating. Fan Club Aulmes will have benefitted from his seasonal debut at Knightwick and his trainer – former champion conditional Luca Morgan – has his horses in good form. Jet Smart, third on his Wadebridge reappearance for Emma Summersby in a competitive Intermediate, should also come on for the race although this is – on paper – a step up in class. Jockey Rian Corcoran is one of the leading novice riders in the country. Everything Now won here in a similar contest in December 2023 and is unraced since, but new trainer Jo Priest can get them ready first time. An interesting first-timer to British points is Alaphilippe, three times a hurdles winner for Fergal O’Brien, with a chase rating of 130 and now with Angela Slatter, while another pointing newcomer to watch is Heidi Brookshaw’s Movethechains, who won five chases for Gary Moore and was rated 120 under rules. Mickey Bowen’s Chilinlikeavillian also had a BHA rating over 120, ran better last time than on his pointing debut and is bidding to give rider Harvey Barfoot-Saunt a first success. Two more with solid pointing form in this grade are Young Rich, representing the powerful Gina Andrews yard and Largy Mountain, who has been absent since 2022-2023 and is now with Hannah Mahon.
